At The Beeches were committed to the design, organisation and provision of high quality person-centred services that meet the diverse needs, individual aspirations and goals of people with an intellectual disability.
Our Resource Centre was opened in October 1990 as an adult day centre on a site adjacent to our Nursing Home in Aghalee. The Resource Centres aim is to improve the quality-of-life of all our clients through structured day time activities. These activities range from vocational work skills training to social and leisure orientated activities.
The Beeches Resource Centre provides essential individual support and guidance to the people who attend the centre to help them develop and maintain their practical life skills and social competencies. The centre has 54 full time places and offers a service to people with a wide range of abilities and individual needs. We cater for residents from our own services as well as adults referred from the community.
Our work skills training is designed to support people in the early stages of their entry into full or part-time employment. Individual coaching and counselling, basic literacy and numeracy teaching as well as practical skills training ensures that each trainee is able to take full advantage of the employment opportunities presented to them.
Clients can also participate in diversional and leisure activities that entertain and engage in a variety of ways tailored to the age and abilities of each client. We also provide music and art therapy plus a multi-sensory environment.
The Resource Centre is made up of an eclectic mix of buildings converted to suit our needs. There are three main buildings with rooms used for a variety of activities and other rooms dedicated to art and crafts, music and multi-sensory activities. We recently opened our own computer suite with broadband internet access.
